I have recently learned that I am a person who gets incredibly scared. Scared of the everyday, scared of falling, scared of failing and scared of not being all that I’m capable of being.

Sometimes there are things that happen during the day that cause these fears. Those are legit. Other days there are such irrational fears and I have absolutely no reason to feel that way. 

To be very honest, I don’t really know how to get rid of those fears. At a Startups Club meeting that I once attended, this was a topic of discussion. Dealing with fear. Of course, that was with respect to entrepreneurship mainly, but I took away so much more than that from that meeting.

I’m a very verbal person. When things trouble me, my way of coping is to talk to people about it. But when I started my own business I realised that there are some things I don’t really want to trouble other people with. Things that I need to start dealing with on my own.

So I started writing about my fears. It was a good way for me to talk about my fears without really talking. I wrote down each fear, and under it I described what exactly scared me about it. I also had subheadings saying “What can I do about it?” and “What’s the worst that could happen?”

What this did was help put things in perspective for me. I could look at my issues with a more rational mind and I think that’s what we all want to do when our minds are getting clogged up. 

So on the days that anxiety is eating me from the inside, I write everything down before I sleep. And in the mornings, I wake up fresh and ready to tackle all those pesky worries.
